Christmas Around The World
Winter is coming so as the festive season!
At Christmas, people all over the world celebrate this time in various ways.
Traditional Christmas decoration are started to be visible on the streets, and festive celebrations can be joined in most countries, even in places where Christianity is not the religion of the majority of people.
Christmas trees are a popular decoration as are tiny sparkling lights in windows and on walls.

United Kingdom:
Most families have a Christmas Tree in their house. Decorating the tree is usually a family occasion, with everyone helping. Christmas trees were first popularised by Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria.
Most villages, towns and cities are decorated with Christmas lights. The most famous lights are in the Oxford Street in London.
Children believe that Santa Clause leaves presents in stockings or pillowcases. These are normally hung up by the fire or by the children’s beds on Christmas Eve. Children sometimes leave out mince pies and brandy for Santa Clause to eat and drink when he visits them. Now, it’s often a non-alcoholic drink because Santa has to drive his sleigh!
The main Christmas Meal is usually eaten at lunchtime or early afternoon of Christmas Day. It’s normally roast turkey, roast vegetables and all the trimmings which means vegetable like carrots & peas, stuffing and sometimes bacon or sausages. The meal is often served with cranberry sauce. Traditionally, and before turkey was available, roast beef or goose was the main Christmas meal.
Dessert is often Christmas Pudding. Mince pies and lots of chocolates are eaten as well!
The dinner table is decorated with a Christmas Cracker for each person and sometimes with flowers and candles.
Statistics show that in the UK, they get White Christmas about every 4 or 5 years and have real snow during Christmas about 1 in 10 years.
